LA5: Reviewing Strengths and Weaknesses of my Sound Sourcing and Sound Creation
What do you feel were your strengths in sourcing audio and why?
I knew as soon as I had the concept for my film what the background music would be, as I knew of many un-released Beatles tracks on YouTube. As well as this, I knew which sounds I wanted to use in the beginning of my film when I first planned out my storyboard.

What areas would you like to improve on when sourcing audio in the future and why?
As well as using background music I could push myself further by adding other sounds on top ( since I removed the sound from each clip before adding the music ). I would also take a look at different websites again and try and incorporate different sounds.

What do you feel were your strengths when creating your own audio and why?
When I realized what sound I wanted to make e.g. for scene one when I open the record player, I straight away knew what sound I wanted to make and immediately thought the downstairs chairs we own would be similar, since the sounds sound the same. I filmed the montage clips using a camera borrowed from college, but after working from home due to the pandemic I used my iPad's microphone to record sounds since I don't own a microphone.

What areas would you like to improve on when creating your own audio in the future?
While adding in more sounds, I'd perhaps use completely different objects to recreate sounds - since I used the squeaking of my dining room chairs to imitate the sound of a record player opening. When creating my audio in the future, I'd also use a mic to make it louder and more clear.

What do you feel went well at the editing stage when integrating your audio into your final film?
I used iMovie to edit my film on my iPad, since my laptop isn't the most useful and wouldn't let me open up Premiere Pro, it was simple to remove the sound from each clip then add the background music straight on top. As well as this, I used my iPad to record the sound of the chairs in the first scene to look like the record opening which also made it easier.

What areas would you like to improve upon when integrating audio onto your future video projects?
In future projects I would try and use a variations of different sounds, since mine were quite similar. Secondly I would also include dialogue, since I decided not to this time round, since I think now that if I maybe added some short dialogue in the beginning it may have come across more inviting and enjoyable instead of just a record player.
