LA1: Camera tutorial
How to set up a camera before shooting a video
In the video linked I've gone over several points and features on how to set up a camera, such as:
- The on/off switch: used to turn the camera on and off, turning off the camera between shots will save battery life
- Turn the dial to the small camera icon to enable movie shooting mode
- The AF/MF switch near the lens: before shooting a movie focus Annual Focus or Manual Focus
- The shutter button to the right of the dial: used to focus the camera with the current AF method
- The camera button: used to start shooting a movie. To stop shooting, simply press the button again
- The star button: locks the exposure
- Holding down the ' Av+/- ' button while turning the dial sets the exposure compensation
- Holding down the shutter button halfway displays the shutter and ISO speed
- Setting the movie exposure: press the menu button and under the first page you'll see 'Movie exposure', which needs to be set to manual
- To set the shutter speed: turn the dial
- To set the ISO speed: press the button to the right of the on/off switch which displays an icon similar to a lightning bolt. Hold the button down and press the ' < > ' keys or turn the dial and select the ISO speed
Notes on movie shooting
- Do not hold the camera in the same position for long periods of time, as prolonged contact with the same body part may cause skin redness. The use of a tripod is recommended.
- Do not point the camera toward an intense light source as this may damage the image sensor or the camera's internal components.
- Try to avoid zooming the lens during movie shooting as this can cause changes in the exposure
- Try to avoid shooting a movie under fluorescent or LED lighting as the movie may flicker.
