Market Research Task
I currently have three different ideas to what i could do -
Idea one: A music review website/blog
The website Pitchfork reviews music of different genre's as soon as released. It goes into detail on a specific album, its artist and more. The writer of each blog gives their honest opinion the music ten gives it a rating out of ten and they also supply statistics. I think a weakness could be, with all music review websites, that since its only one person giving their opinion on an album, another person may have a different opinion. Another weakness I picked out was that I think they could review the album more rather than the artist as a person - In a review for an album I think the writer went slightly off topic and began talking about her personal opinion on the artist as a person, which as a reader didn't appeal to me as I want to read about the album.
A second website/blog was The Young Folks, which reviews concerts as well as new music which I would also do since I have concerts booked. They review both new and old which I like and would also do, as I tend to like older music more than modern. While providing the music, it also links the artists music videos which I admire as if you didn't know that artist it would be giving you a slight insight into them. I don't believe I'm able to pick out a weakness as it contains everything you'd need to know.
A third example is the website Upset, who tend to review not as well known artists to get their name out there. While promoting music, they support different artists upcoming tours which I would also do as its a nice thing. While being able to read the reviews online, they also print their own magazine which you can buy copies of and they also promote upcoming festivals.
Idea two: A film review website/blog
As well as music, The Young Folks reviews films. They go into depth on a certain film, its characters, the directors, etc. And all reviews are honest. They explain the plot of the film while not giving too much away and provide the trailer. They upload several blog posts/reviews in a day due to having several writers whereas it would just be me, if I were to make a film review blog.
A second example is Roger Ebert which reviews films dating back to 1914 which I like and would also probably do since i enjoy older films from the sixties/eighties. It reviews films on their release date and gives them a rating out of five. To find a certain film it lets you search by name, genre, the year it was released, etc. which is helpful. They also provide a list of 'great movies' so if you didn't know a film to watch, I'm sure you could find one on there.
My third example is Rotten Tomatoes, which gives not one but two ratings on films - Tomatometer and an Audience Score. It gives honest opinions, provides quotes from the film, shows clips, photos, etc. Something I like about the website is that if you wanted to see an upcoming film, you can buy tickets to see it straight from their website.
Idea three: A short documentary of my trip to Liverpool
I've seen several Beatles documentaries and films but never a short documentary on all four members, based in Liverpool. There's examples like the documentary George Harrison Living in a Material World or the film Nowhere Boy based on the childhood of John Lennon which only slightly features the other three members; while both of these feature parts of Liverpool they don't focus a lot on it and are 1/2 hours long. Along with these and a few short youtube videos, there isn't anything which resembles what I would like to do. My idea was, when I go to Liverpool late October, to create a short documentary highlighting the parts of the city that were most important to the Beatles and the upbringing of their fame - places like the Cavern Club, The Grapes bar, etc. While I would like to go through with this idea, it has more weaknesses to it than the others. The main one being that if I don't get enough footage while there, I can't really do anything about it as I wouldn't be able to just go back.
